A complete copper-alloy trade weight of James I or James II of Post-Medieval date.
It is flat and circular in form. The front face depicts the Royal cypher of James I or James II surmounted by a crown (1603-1688 AD), a sword and a ewer. The back face displays coarse filing marks.
This trade weight is 37.66mm in diameter, 4.64mm in thickness, 24.16g in weight.
These marks (or a subset of them) appear on all London weights from about 1590 to 1826. The letter A is frequently absent from the denominations of one ounce and below. This weight falls slightly below the standard weight to the value of 1 ounce or 16 drams (Biggs, 1992, pp. 50).
