An incomplete and worn copper-alloy Roman bow brooch of Colchester derivative with double pierced lug. Only part of the wings and bow survive, the remainder of the object is missing due to old breaks, now worn.
The wings are semi-cylindrical in form and the front face of one wing is decorated with a transverse ridge. The wings are separated at their centre by the remains of a rear facing double pierced lug. The lug extends forwards onto the head of the brooch where it develops into a longitudinal central rib before terminating in old breaks. The bow itself is triangular in section with flat back face.
This bow brooch measures 18.01mm in length, 20.64mm in width at the wings, 7.20mm in width at the bow, 3.18mm in thickness, 2.79g in weight.
This brooch is similar to those published by Hattatt (Hattatt, 1989, pp.297 no. 258) and discovered at Hacheston (Blagg et al, 2004, pp. 96, no. 111).
