A complete copper alloy Medieval buckle frame and pin dating from about AD 1350 - 1500.

The frame is trapezoidal and the outer edge is raised (offset) from the sides and has oblique corners to give the appearance of being folded. The face of the outer edge is decorated with a patter of rocker arm decoration; two wavy lines apparently twiste in a helix forming six irregular oval panels. Each panel contains a short line of wiggle-work, and there are further rocker-arm zig-zags in the outer angles. The sides taper from the outer edge towards the bar. They are decorated with an oval formed of three rows of zigzags, perhaps intended to be a leaf. This motif appears on each arm. The bar is rounded but is not offset nor reccesed. The pin is cast in copper alloy and is sub-square in section. It has a raised collar and an open loop which is wrapped round the bar. The metal is dark grey in colour with a smooth patina. File marks are visible on the reverse. Compare similar examples on the database: SWYOR-BBEB86, NMS-CD5F17, NMS-072117 and BH-9F5933 and also a published example: Whitehead (2003), no.168. which is dated to about AD 1350 - 1500. The buckle frame is 54mm long, 26.4mm wide and 3.44mm thick. The pin is 7.66mm thick. 11.97g.
