A cast copper alloy object, probably of medieval date, comprising a slender round-backed central portion with a hollow lower side and which is pierced centrally with a round hole. From one end projects a slender animal head; the opposite end appears to be truncated. One or two patches of red material appear to be present around the head and perhaps on the hollow side, but it is unclear if any of this is enamel as first thought.
Elements of this object are reminiscent of the feet of folding candlesticks (eg the animal head on objects such as LIN-91AC94) and it may be part of a similar folding device.
