A Medieval to post-Medieval foot from a cast copper-alloy cooking vessel (c. 1250-c. 1650).

The object is trapezoidal in plan and sub-triangular in cross-section.
At the front it is bevelled at the sides. Two notches at the front give it a claw-like appearance. At the rear it is bevelled close to the base.

This object is coarse and green with some areas of corrosion and small patches of soot. The break at the top is old.

Height: 29.4mm; width: at base: 28.8mm; width at top: 21.0mm; thickness: 12.8mm. Weight: 29.97g.

Cast cooking vessels seem to have come into use in the second half of the 13th century and to have continued at least until c. 1600 (Geake 2001: 52). Also, see Butler, Green and Payne 2009.
