An incomplete copper alloy Late Iron Age to early Roman Colchester brooch. The head has signs of transverse grooving on the outer face. To the rear are two loops, one still containing part of the chord. The rest of the spring and pin are missing. The bow tapers to a point and the remains of a triangular catchplate survive to the reverse.
Several similar examples are illustrated by Bayley and Butcher (2004, p.63, 54ff), who suggest that this type was first manufactured prior to the Roman conquest of Britain, but continued in use into the middle years of the 1st century AD (ibid., 149).
