A complete Medieval to Post Medieval cast lead or tin alloy bi-face token, dating to c. AD 1250-1800; Powell type 9. The token is decorated on both sides with a segmented design and two pellets; on one side the design is very pronounced, but it is much fainted on the other, possibly due to a fault during production. The token is dark grey in colour. It measures 24.12 mm in diameter, 3.48 mm thick, 7.02 g in weight.
Tokens were easy to make and distributed widely throughout a large period of time; therefore, they are difficult to date precisely. They are thought to have been circulated throughout both the Medieval and Post Medieval periods and those with simple designs are given a general date of c. AD 1250-1800. This example may be composed of tin alloy rather than lead alloy, which is suggested by its condition and corrosion characteristics.
