Unique ID: SOM-2D429F

Object type certainty: Certain

A medieval to post-medieval copper-alloy oval single-looped buckle frame, incomplete in so far as it is missing its pin. The buckle is plain with a single notch at the centre of the outer edge which would have acted as a pin rest. Such buckles were in use on personal dress from the 13th-15th centuries, but continued to be used on horse equipment into the post-medieval period (Whitehead 2003, 16-18). This frame has a dark-green patina with some patches of pitting.
