An incomplete Post-Medieval copper alloy double-oval buckle frame dating to the period 1550 - 1650. The frame consists of one loop with axis bar and two small stubs which would have extended into the other loop. There is significant moulded decoration: collared barrel moulding on the outer edge of the loop, moulded curvilinear ribs, two collars at symmetrical points at the top and bottom of the loop and three raised ridges with beading in between in the centre of the outer edge. At either end of the axis bar is a lobed knop taking the form of a humanoid head. The reverse is flat and plain. There are traces of black lacquer on both sides. The frame measures 26.55mm (with both loops would have been c.48mm) by 25.20mm and weighs 3.68g. The internal dimensions of the loop measure 17.25mm by 12.30mm.
The buckle is very similar to Whitehead No. 427 (1996, p68) which is dated to c1550-1650.
