A copper-alloy single-loop buckle, dating from the Medieval period.
The frame is roughly 'D-shaped', the sides flaring outwards from the axis bar, then curving inwards to form the outer side, at the centre of which is an outward-pointing pin rest with transverse groove. The rectangular upper side of the plate remains, with parts of two folded tabs at the frame end, which would have joined it to the now-missing back plate. At the opposite end of the plate, there are two rivet holes, one on either corner.
Length: 23.9mm; width: 20.9mm; thickness: 2mm; weight: 1.46g.
Similar buckles were found at Meols, Merseyside (Egan in Griffiths et al 2007: 88, Type 4), where they were assigned to the late 14th century.
