An incomplete copper-alloy hooked mount of probable 16th-17th century AD date (B. Read; 2001; pp. 30; no.355). It is suggested that the function of such mounts may have been to suspend a sword from a baldrick. The main part of the mount is rectangular in plan, has angled outer edges on the front face and a hollow underside. A pointed acorn-like knob, which extends upwards from the centre of the rectangular part's upper edge, contains a corroded iron rivet. At the bottom of the rectangular part, a square protrusion extends into a broken backwards-curving hook of sub-semi-circular section. On the reverse of the protrusion there is the stub of a circular-sectioned integral prong or casting scar. The mount measures 45.0mm long, 18.5mm wide and 4.3mm thick. The weight is 9.39g.
