A post-medieval cast lead-alloy button. Circular in shape, it had a slightly convex front and a flat reverse but is now bent inwards at 60 degrees down the centre. The upper surface is decorated with a moulded double six-petalled rose with stamens between the petals within a plain line border at the edges. The back is plain apart from the integral loop of which only the stub of the circular sectioned shank survives in the centre. It is 16.2mm in diameter, 2.9mm thick excluding the loop and 4.8mm including it, it weighs 3.35 grams.
A similar button can be seen in Read (2005) p.65, no.250 and is dated to c.17th century. See also SOM-17A1B6 and SOM-842686 on this database.
