Post-medieval copper alloy vessel leg and foot. It is D-shaped in cross section with a flat back and convex front. The leg has three moulded vertical ribs running down the length. It narrows and thins from the top to the lower end. A broad transverse collar separates the leg and foot. The flaring foot again has three vertical ribs running down the front. The leg rises at about 80 degrees but the foot is curved out slightly more and thickens and widens towards the base which is mostly broken.
At the top of the leg the triangular concave end is irregular with a mass of iron on the upper surface and a blob on the front. There appears to be a circular peg or indent at the centre of this mass. There is also a cut off circular sectioned projection on the upper surface near the back and off centre. It is possibly this is a replacement leg with the iron being the remains of an attachment peg and the projection the end of the casting jet. It is 86.8mm in length, 28.7mm in width, 20.8mm in thickness and weighs 115 grams.
Crudely made cast copper alloy vessels were widely used from c.1100-1800 for serving and cooking. Butler et al (2009:4) categorise four main types of leg, this is a type C which they suggest was already in use by the 16th century and was almost universal in the 17th.
