Post medieval (18th-early 19th century) cast copper alloy button with traces of red enamel. The button head is circular with about one third missing to an old break down one side. On the front is a cast raised design of a central five petalled rose surrounded by elaborate spiralling foliage all surrounded by a plain line border. There appears to be traces of red enamel in the indented areas around the pattern. The edge is angled slightly outwards and projects at the back creating a raised rim. The rest of the back is recessed around a large central domed boss in which is embedded the remains of the iron shank. It is 20.5mm in diameter, 5mm thick, 1.5mm thick excluding the boss and rim and weighs 2.44 grams.
Bailey (2004:74) illustrates similar buttons including Fig 9.266 which he dates to the 18th to early 19th centuries.
