A cast lead alloy spindle whorl dating from the Roman to the Post-Medieval period, (AD43-1800). The object is circular in plan and biconical with a central circular perforation with an internal diameter of 6.99mm. Each face is decorated with moulded lines in the form of a star. Three raised pellets decorate the void between each point of the star while a single pellet decorates the object within each point of the star. There is a raised border surrounding the internal perforation and the outer edge of the object. The object has a mid brown patina.
Similar examples of spindle whorls have reportedly been found in contexts dated from the Roman through to the Post-Medieval period although the majority are typically dated broadly to the Medieval period c.1100-1500.
