Post medieval copper alloy mount with three bent proection spikes on the reverse (all bent inwards). It measures 51.98 mm in lenth, 27.52 mm in width and weighs 14.3 g. The mount has a central D-shape with an oval projecting to one side and a parallelogram to the other - this is in the form of a fanned tail and decorated with vertical grooves it also has some leather still attached. It may have had an additional fixing purpose. The mount is similar in shape to the acorn type, which in turn look similar to a bird - this example looks very much like a bird and less like an acorn.
