An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy 'stirrup'-shaped finger-ring. (c. 1150-c. 1450).
This ring is large and the inner diameter of the hoop measures 19.8mm. The square bezel (7.8 x 7.8mm) has a recess that contains the remains of white paste. Below the bezel the hoop is bevelled at each side. The outer and inner face of the hoop is slightly convex.
This finger-ring is drab green with traces of an olive green patina.
Height: 29.7mm; width: 23.6mm; thickness at bezel: 8.0mm. Weight: 9.22g.
The ring is similar to examples from London (Egan and Pritchard 1991: 326, refs: 1608, 1609). It is suggested that this form was popular from the mid-12th to the mid-15th century. However, they were most popular during the earlier part of the period.
