Silver coin. Short cross penny of John (1199-1216), class 5c issue of 1204-1209, as kindly identified by the finder with reference to North no. 971 and Spink (nd - 2004 edition available to this reporter), Canterbury mint.
Obverse description: Facing bust with sceptre left, hair of two curls and two pellets either side, beard of fine strokes with central pellet.
Obverse inscription: hENRICVS R EX; this reporter is less assured than the finder of the form of X, which might admit class 5b.
Reverse description: Voided short cross, quatrefoil in each angle. Initial cross pattee.
