Medieval cast copper alloy 'beehive' shaped thimble with central hole. The thimble is almost hemi-spherical with slightly lengthened sides. The small circular pits are arranged in an irregular spiral from the base to the top leaving a bare tonsure surrounding a central circular hole. There is also two fine incised lines around the base just above the rim.
It measures 13.1mm in height, 16.6mm in diameter at the base, the sides are 0.9mm thick and it weighs 2.23g.
A similar example can be found in Egan, (1998) The Medieval Household, page 266, no 821 from a context dated c.1330-1380.
