Post Medieval sword belt mount dating to the 16th century. The flat plate of the mount has a oval top end with rounded projections to each side and a narrowed waist underneath. This waist then expands forming rounded shoulders before tapering in width to a second waist that expands out on each side with rounded projections creating a transverse oval shape at the lower edge, narrower than that at the top. The front of the mount has raised, cast floriate decoration in a design known as 'vine-scroll' with traces of black laquer coating. On the back are two integral rivets, long, rectangular sectioned strips with rounded ends. One stats near each end and they are bent inwards and out to one side 180 degrees.
It measures 27.0mm long, 17.3mm wide and 2.4mm thick excluding the rivets, 19.8mm wide by 9.9mm thick including them and weighs 6.29g.
In form and decoration this mount echos 16th century sword belt sets and was almost certainly an ensuite item. Read (2008: 220, No.793) illustrates a complete example of a sword hanger from such a set which he dates to the 16th century AD and there are several others on this database including SOM-EF4646. The finder has pointed out LIN-68E6C5 on this database is a mount identical to this example.
