COIN

Unique ID: PUBLIC-4CAE36

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

A copper-alloy nummus of House of Constantine, dating to AD 330-5 (Reece Period 17), GLORIA EXERCITAS 2 soldiers and 2 standards type. The reverse appears to have been double-struck. Mint unclear. Pierced with iron pin.

Notes:

This coin has been pierced and remains of the the iron pin are still in situ approximately 4mm from the coin edge closest to the emperor's nose. Such pierced coins with nails still in situ are increasingly being recognised amongst PAS finds.

The reverse appears to have been struck twice and is very off centre with original inscription outside its flan.
