A worn copper-alloy coin weight for a Thistle Crown of James I (1604 - 1619).
The weight is sub-rectangular and of flat section. On one side is a relief-stamped crown over the value mark, 'IIII [S]/(4 D 1/2)'; the other side has a crowned thistle, which divides the letters I' and 'R' ('Iacobus Rex'). A beaded circular border surrounds the design on this side.
