Copper alloy coin. Base metal core of a North East inscribed stater of the Corieltauvi, probably ABC no. 1929, Aunt Cost left, which is sometimes base gold or plated, cf. Van Arsdell no. 910. Haselgrove Period 3 phase 8, AD 10-40. The weights cited by Van Arsdell, up to 5.5gms, might have been approached with a generous coating of gold added but there is no trace of it now.

Obverse description: Apollo wreath crossed by bar with a crescent at each end, ring of pellets in crescents.

Reverse description: Lunate, Celticised or discombobulated horse left, with pellet-seriffed strokes above and below it, the latter having an especially fungiform appearance specifically resembling the hallucinogenic Liberty Cap [P. Sem.] mushroom.

Reverse inscription: AVN above horse (following Rudd et al. 2010).

Diameter: 19.3mm, Thickness 2.2mm, Weight: 3.71gms
