A cast copper alloy vessel or bucket mount or escutcheon in the shape of a bull's head, dating from the late Iron age to the mid-Roman period, about 100 BC - AD 300.
The bovine head tapers to a rounded snout and has a pair of horns curving forwards, the tips of which have broken away in antiquity and are now missing. The top of the head is flat and carries the remains of two metal projections that may once have formed a loop. The eyes are circular holes drilled into the metal. They were probably originally filled with glass or enamel. Between them is an indentation, reaching almost to the top of the mount, in the shape of a downward pointing isosceles triangle. The underside of the mount is flat and hollowed out, the hollow roughly following the shape of the upper side. The mount has a dark green patina, with some loss of the surface in places. It is 30.8mm long, 24.3mm wide and 6.9mm thick. It weighs 9.5gm.
