An incomplete and worn stone object, probably a whetstone or hone, of uncertain date. It is missing parts of both ends due to old breaks and demonstrates evidence of use-wear and post-depositional corrosion. The object is rectangular in form and section, formed from a fine grained and micaceous stone, probably a schist or similar. At the top is a central circular perforation that is countersunk on both faces suggesting it was drilled from both directions. One side of the top is missing due to old breaks. Both sides of the hone show signs of use wear and the tapering tip of the object has an old breaks in addition to possible re-use or use-wear on one curving side. The entire object measures 62.32mm in length, 12.50mm in width, 9.18mm in thickness and 13.15g in weight. This appears to be an incomplete hone or whetstone used for sharpening metal tols or blades. Its date range is uncertain and it may date to any point from the Roman period onwards.
