An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy belt mount (c. 1150-c. 1400).
This mount consists of part of a bar and a complete terminal. Originally, there would have been another terminal at the opposite end.
The bar is 'D'-shaped in cross-section and the terminal is shell-shaped. Between the bar and terminal there is a transverse rib. The terminal has an off-centre circular rivet hole with a diameter of 2.10mm. At the rear the hole is countersunk. The rivet is missing. The rear face is flat.
This mount is green with traces of a green patina. The break is old.
Length: 29.49mm; width of terminal: 9.07mm; width of bar: 3.68mm; thickness: 2.06mm. 1.31g.
An example from Westbury, Buckinghamshire has been published (Ivens et al 1995: fig. 153, ref: 74).
A similar mount has been recorded from Great Dunham, Norfolk. See Portable Antiquities Scheme find: NMS-64F6D2.
