A complete lead powder measure cap of post-medieval date. The cap is cylindrical with straight sides, a circular base and is open at one end. The sides of the cap have been compressed inwards closing the open top. Two worn bulbous protrusions are present at the junction between the sides and the base which represent the remains of attachment loops.
The metal is a light brownish-white colour and is worn. The cap is 25.2mm tall, 25.3mm in wide, 3mm thick and weighs 23.2g.
Powder measures are common finds from Civil War sites and were attached to the bandolier, or belt, of the wearer by the loops. The cap would have been part of a small flask holding enough powder for a complete charge for a weapon, of which there would have been several attached to the bandolier.
