A cast copper alloy sword or dagger chape dating from the Medieval period, (1100-1500). The object is sub-triangular in plan and oval in cross-section. It consists of a single flattened sheet of copper alloy which has been folded over leaving a join running down one edge. Both the base and the top of the object are open. A regular circular perforation, probably for a rivet to attach the chape to the leather, runs through each side of the object. The perforation measures 6.07mm on each face. The chape is undecorated and has a dark green patchy patina.
