A cast copper alloy plate brooch dating to the Roman period, (AD 43-410). The object is lozenge shaped in plan and is a trapezoid in cross-section. The central lozenge comprises of a cell which may have contained enamel surrounded by a border decorated with worn flattened pellets. This is surrounded by a very narrow cell and another border with similar decoration. The object then steps down and flattening towards the edge. The rear of the object is flat and file marks are visible. The hinge and catchplate have broken away and only a small scar remains. The object has a dark green patina and is in fair condition.
A similar example can be found in Hattatt, (2000), p349, no. 567. The object can be dated to the 2nd century.
