A complete lead token of medieval to post-medieval date, circa AD 1200 - 1800. The token is bi-faced and is circular in plan with a thin rectangular section. The decoration consists of the initials J:R on one face and a six spoke wheel on the other. This token is of Powell's Type 2.
The metal is a mid whitish-grey colour and is worn. The token is 20.3mm in diameter, 2.9mm thick and weighs 5.9g.
Tokens with simple designs are very easy to make and continued in use for a long period. They have a huge range of designs which were not necessarily related to function and could have been used for various purposes such as counting, gaming, farm or tavern tokens or possibly even as weights.
