Incomplete Early Saxon Florid Cruciform brooch. Top and sides knobs with cast sub-rectangular Style I mask with large eyebrows, eyes, nose and prominent moustache, the top knob probably miscast with an oblique break. Rectangular head-plate with a median line of punched dots, perforated single lug within iron corrosion on reverse. Rectangular panel above the broken stump of the missing bow. The break across the bow is not recent. Surviving length 43mm. Width 55mm. Weighs 24.39g. Leeds and Pocock's (1971) Group V. Masks very close to that on a side knob from Roudham (NMS-5D0970). c.540-570.
