A cast lead alloy spindle whorl of Roman to later Medieval date (43 - 1500 AD). The object is circular in plan and biconical. The object has a large central circular perforation with an internal diameter of 7.81mm. One face is decorated with curved mouldings separated by raised pellets. The opposite face is decorated with moulded cross-hatching with pellets in the angles. The object has a mid white patina and is in fair condition.
Similar examples of spindle whorls have reportedly been found in contexts dated from the Roman through to the Post-Medieval period although the majority are typically dated broadly to the Medieval period c.1100-1500.
