Cast copper alloy button with soldered attachment loop on the back with the crowned letters 'M B' above the number '6'. The 'M B' may refer to the Mounts Bay Rangers and the '6' probably refers to the 6th Batallion. The 'Mounts Bay Volunteers' (Infantry) were originally raised in 1796, under CO Major Commandant John Tremenheere. The 'Mounts Bay Rangers', were raised in 1797 and the 'Fuzileers', in 1798. Two battalions were re-raised in 1803.
Ivall & Thomas (1974) illustrate a shoulder-belt plate on page 51, Plate S, No.221, which was used by the Mounts Bay Yeoman Rangers, which were a small independent corps of mounted guides in the Penzance area, and is dated from c.1805-1812.
