Finger ring
Unique ID: NMGW-7DD554
Object type certainty:
Copper alloy finger ring, probably of Early Saxon date. The ring is complete and has similar decoration to Late Roman or Early Saxon bracelets. The terminals are currently overlapping with a space between them, if straightened the ring would have had a large diameter of c. 30mm. The decoration is symmetrical and the terminals are decorated with an incised line c.10mm from the end, with a central punched dot either side. Beyond the second punched dot is a row of punched dots across the ring’s width. The main body of the ring has another lengthways row of punched dots. The terminals are slightly rounded.
Notes:
The strip is likely to be a large finger ring, since it seems to be too small for even a child’s bracelet.
