Strap end</objecttype>
<descriptions>
<description>
<full>Cast copper alloy strap end of Early Medieval date, probably dating to the Anglo&#45;Saxon period and of 9th to 10th century date. The strap end is of slightly unusual form and does not easily fit into Thomas’ classification. The strap end was attached to the strap by means of a sawn opening (7mm deep) and secured by a single protruding iron rivet, which is still present. The strap end tapers to its terminal with converging sides, which expand at the terminal. On either side, below the strap slot are rounded knops. The face is decorated with a moulded triangular panel before a raised debased animal head. The end is likely to have eroded and may have originally consisted of a circular or oval terminal.</full>
