A cast copper-alloy umbonate brooch of the Roman period, c. 100-250.

The brooch is incomplate, consisting of a slightly convex base of octagonal shape, with projecting knops at each angle, with a conical projetion of the brooch in its centre. There is a slight projection of the outer edge where the double lug for the hinge pin extends from the underside, the hinge and upper shaft of which remain corroded in place. The lug extension also retains the remains of the base of a headloop.

The exterior surface of the brooch has a cellular pattern, most of the cells retaining enamel. The outer 'ring' of the brooch - the octagonal plate - retains five 'tongue-shaped' cells which retain a turquoise enamel, the rounded ends pointing toward the outer edge. Between these rounded-ends are triangular cells which retain a dark blue or black enamel. A sunken ring separates the plate from the conical boss, and this appears to have traces of white enamel in it. The boss has four petal-shaped cells arranged around a central knop, retaining turquoise enamel, with four triangular cells between these petals, one of which retains white enamel.

The reverse of the brooch has suffered from more active corrosion, though approximately 40% of the brooch is missing.
