A complete cast copper alloy strap fitting or belt mount, of medieval date (13th to 15th Centuries).
The mount is of the bar type and consists of a domed central oval, with two projecting lugs. The projecting lugs are rectangular in shape, with a central perforation. The holes are recessed on the rear of the mount. A circular section copper alloy rivet is present in both of the lugs. The head of the rivet is flush with the front of the mount, but extends past the back of the mount. The central oval is domed, with five horizontal grooves as decoration in the middle. The reverse is concave. The reverse is plain and undecorated.
The mount measures 15.49 MM in length, 9.45 MM wide (max), 4.92 MM wide (min) and is 4.87 MM thick. It weighs 1.4 grams.
It is a dark green colour and demonstrates an even patina across the surface of the artefact.
This style of bar mount was popular during the Medieval period and typically dates from 13th to 15th Centuries AD. Several similar mounts have been recorded on the database (WMID-6A1612, SUSS-A1EF65, PUBLIC-1628F7, WAW-052866 and LEIC-589685 as examples).
