A fragment of a Roman (AD 43-70) copper alloy Hod Hill brooch. It measures 23.3x15.4x2.3 and weighs 2.6g.
The fragment consists of the head with two wings which have been curled over in order to hold the pin in place. The pin is now missing. There is a central cut out groove 2.3mmx4.1mm where the pin would have rested. Below this section are a series of diagonal marks. There are three cross moulding at the top of the bow, equally spaced the2.6mm. The middle one is slightly bigger 2.5x9.8mm and standing out like a ridge. Below the third appears to be some form of patterning but it is difficult to make this pattern out. The fragment is dark grey in colour.
