Cast copper alloy large double loop sub-oval belt buckle frame with expanded outer edges with moulded pellets which look like bunches of grapes on either side of a transverse pin rest. The original surface has worn away in patches so that the decoration is unclear, but vines and scrolls are common motifs seen on these types of buckles. There is a knop at either end of the strap bar which is narrowed and flush with the frame. The knops are defined by oblique incised lines on either side and another pair about 9 mm further along the frame. The surface is very corroded and pitted and the central strap bar has iron oxide around the middle section where the iron pin was attached, but is now missing. There appear to also be traces of gilding on the back of the frame in two areas.

Whitehead (1996) illustrates similar examples of large ornate buckles on pages 68-9, Nos.421 & 430, which are dated from c.1550-1650.
