HOOKED TAG

Unique ID: DUR-E83DD6

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete cast copper alloy relief moulded hooked tag dating to the early post-medieval period. The object is anthropomorphic in design with the main part of the tag in the form of a human face with the trapezoidal frame attached the head which would in turn be attached to the item of clothing. The object is quite worn but it appears that the face has curly hair and possibly a beard. There is a break from the beard and this is where the hook would have been attached although this is now missing. The reverse is concave and undecorated.

Read lists a similar example as an early post medieval Class E, Type 8, page 114, no. 114.
