A cast copper alloy Post Medieval dress hook. The body of the dress hook is sub-circular in plan with moulded scalloped edges and a high-relief annulet on the outer face surrounded by sub-circular shaped openwork. The reverse of the body is flat and undecorated. The upper edge of the body has an incomplete integral rectangular loop. The loop allows the dress hook to be stitched to the garment. Integral to the lower edge of the body is the hook. This protrudes from the centre of the lower edge and is sub semi-circular in section. The hook terminal curls towards the reverse of the dress hook, but is possibly incomplete. The surface of the dress hook has traces of a light green patina, otherwise the surface is abraded. The dress hook measures 23.81mm long and 15.55mm wide across the body. It weighs 1.6g.
Margeson (Margeson, S. 1993 Norwich Households: Medieval and Post Medieval Finds From Norwich Survey, Excavations 1971-78. East Anglian Archaeology 58) illustrates a similar dated dress hooks, Nos. 71 to 75, and dates these types of objects to the late 16th to 17th centuries.
