A cast copper alloy, continental coin weight, dating from the sixteenth or seventeenth century. It is square and both faces carry a design. On one side is an upright hand, the usual mark for Antwerp, flanked by the letters R I and with a letter V set between them but slightly lower. This mark is listed on page 61 of Lions, Ships and Angels, but the maker is unknown. The design on the other side appears to be abstract. It consists of an upright lozenge, impressed with a trefoil and divided at the top, beneath what appears to be a crown with a double band and a lozenge shaped central fleur. At each end of the crown is a curved double line. The weight has a dark brown patina. It is 13.8 mm long, 13.4mm wide and 1.2mm thick. It weighs 1.35 gm.
