COIN

Unique ID: LVPL-1DCD95

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

A silver cut half penny of Cnut, (AD1016-1035).

Obverse: CNU[T R]EX; diadem bust left, in front sceptre with lis head.

Reverse: SEOL [ ] PINC[ ] (possibly- this remains uncertain); voided short cross with a circle enclosing a pellet in the center.

North no. 790.

AD1029-1035/6.

Notes:

SEOL [ ] PINC[] with the SE and the NC both ligated which would give a likely full inscription of SEOLCA ON PINCS. However, that would result in half a coin to write CA ON. There are currently no other short cross type with Seolca as moneyer listed by either PAS or EMC. (peers comm. Dr John Naylor).
