An incomplete cast lead alloy and glass toy clock or watch face, of Post Medieval to Modern dating (AD 1800 - AD 1900).
Approximately 50% of the toy is present, consisting of the clock face and back. The suspension loop and edges are damaged. It was probably a multi component toy watch, which are cast in one piece, with an integral pendant, hinge, button or catch. Circumferential ridges are present around the edge of the clock face and on the reverse. Transverse radiating grooves are present as a border around the dial or face. The watch or clock face consists of a white back ground with moulded numbers. A transparent domed glass layer is present above the moulded dial. The clock hands have been positioned so the time reads twentythree minutes past one. (1:23 am / pm).
The clock face measures 22.12 mm in diameter, and 3.62 mm thick. It weighs 5.1 grams.
The toy watch or clock is predominately a mid grey colour, with an even surface patina.
A direct parallel has not been found for this artefact at the time of recording, although it bears many similarities to an Forsyth & Egan type 12 toy watch (Egan & Forsyth, 2005, 380), but the back and dials are not consistent. It is however reasonable to assume that it is of similar dating (AD 1800 to AD 1900).
