Description: A Post-Medieval gold finger-ring (or posy ring) in the form of a belt or garter and inscribed + HOPE * IS * MI HOLDE around the outside of the hoop and TILL * HAP * SHALL * HELPE around the inside of the hoop. The hoop is rectangular in cross-section and 2.55mm wide. The buckle frame is a double-looped type, with moulded projections at either end of the axis bar. The pin is visible piercing the strap, which curves underneath the hoop to the back and then to the front again, tucking itself underneath the strap again. The strap has five visible 'holes' for the pin, a sixth possibly being half-hidden by one edge of the buckle frame. The strap appears to have a 'strap-end' with projecting ornamentation.
Cf. a similar example from Gloucestershire, GLO-244613, 2009 T135.
Dimensions and metal content: The finger-ring measures 19.53x18.38mm (internal 17.08x16.12mm) and weighs 2.75g.
As the object contains at least 10% gold and is at least 300 years old, it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
