A worn and slightly corroded Medieval copper-alloy English jetton of 'Sterling Bust' type. The obverse has a forward facing bust with bifoliate crown within an inner circle, whilst the reverse has a long cross fourchee with three pellets in each quarter. It isn't possible to discern a central pellet on the obverse as is frequently common, however a small recessed circle is visible at the centre of the reverse. This form of jetton closely imitates Edwardian silver pennies, but with nonsensical legends comprised of pellets, annulets and figures imitating letters. Similar jettons are illustrated in Mitchener (p104) and are dated to c. AD 1302-1350. For a similar example recorded on the PAS database, see: NMS-A51157.
