<description>
<full>Decorative cast copper alloy handle mount from the butt end of a flintlock pistol dating to the 18th or early 19th century. This is a mount to fit over the bottom and front of the wooden handle of a flintlock pistol. The mount is simply decorated with a concentric series of four mouldings on the butt end. The base of the gently curving projecting arm has a scallop design either side of a double linear moulding with fades or has been worn away near the top of the arm. The mount has broken at apex of the arm, just before the mount thins, where it would have developed into the trigger guard. There is a small recess at the rear of the butt, which may have housed a mount attached to the rear of the handle. The iron attachment pin is still present at the butt.</full>
