A copper-alloy prick spur of Medieval date, c. 1250-1350.
The spur is incomplete, with only the goad, neck, and base of the arms remaining, all cast integral. The goad is best described as biconical, with the actual prick formed by a smaller cone, with its base centred in the base of a larger sub-pyramidal cone, which forms the base of the goad and flows into the neck of sub-circular section, which projects in a gentle curve downward and outward from the arms. Only the base of the arms remain, giving the appearance of the neck and goad fixed to a crescent that is bent slightly inward.
Greater wear along the right side of the goad may indicate that this spur was worn on the left foot.
The copper-alloy has lost much of its primary patina, but the spur is covered by a secondary patina of relatively smooth surface and a rather rusty-red colour.
