An incomplete cast copper-alloy mount or strap fitting of uncertain date. One terminal end survives intact, the remainder of the object missing due to old breaks. It is flat, rectangular in form with a curved terminal end that has a central circular aperture. The front face has borders along each side formed from deeply incised single lines, with traces of incised zig-zag motifs at the rounded terminal. Within the borders at the centre of the plate is chip carved decoration comprising a broad and relatively crudely rendered zig-zag or wavy line motif. On both faces of the object there are traces of an adde white metal coating. It measures 30.65mm in length, 12.56mm in width, 1.45mm in thickness and 3.13g in weight.
This is a decorative terminal, possibly from a strap fitting, mount or similar item. The decorative elements are potentially indicative of an Early-Medieval date, however the object is relatively crudely rendered and its preservation makes a close attribution problematic. It is possible that it is of later, Medieval date, perhaps from the 12th-15th centuries AD, although no close parallel has yet been identified.
