A copper-alloy Roman finger ring of Henig Type XI, inscribed 'TOT'. The hoop is oval in plan and D-shaped in cross-section with a pronounced rib running down the exterior. The rib widens at the top to form a falt, rectangular raised bezel with a ledge above and below. The bezel bears an abbreviation of the Celtic god-name Totatis.
'TOT' rings date to the 2nd and 3rd centuries and are concentrated in the East Midlands, especially in Lincolnshire.
Notes:
This ring was shown to Adam Daubney among a bequest of finds, most of which were discovered during the 1980s at Saltersford. Although there was no documentation to prove the find spot, it is thought to be very likely given the circumstances.
